Honeydew Melon

Care and Handling

Availability - Green Giant® Fresh Honeydew Melon is available year round.

Selection - Select melons which are firm to the touch if melon is intended to keep for a few days before serving. If serving immediately, select honeydew which gives a bit with pressure applied to the blossom end. Honeydew that are at least five pounds will yield the best flavor.

Storage - When unripe, honeydew can be stored at room temperature. Once ripened, melons keep best when placed in the refrigerator for a few days. Keep cut honeydew covered in the refrigerator.

Preparation - Honeydew is a perfect treat anytime of the year. Remove outer rind, and cut into wedges or squares, or, use melon baller to create bite size spheres. Eat these pieces of fruit by themselves, or mix them with other sized to eat pieces of melon or other fruits to create vibrant fruit salads. Try pairing honeydew with ice cream or yogurt and top with granola.

Cooking - Honeydew is not often cooked, but when it is, it can be found grilled with tropical fruits to make stunning additions at your next grilling event.

Freezing - To freeze honeydew, slice melon into cubes and place on a baking sheet. Place baking sheet into freezer until honeydew is thoroughly frozen. Transfer frozen pieces into freezer bags and remove air in bag before sealing.
